Hungarian designers will also be introduced at the Design Festival in Bucharest
This year again, the Hungarian presence will be emphasized at the most prestigious festival of applied artists in Romania, and Hungarian designers will present themselves at three exhibitions at the Bucharest Design Festival – the centre of the Liszt Institute in Bucharest announced on Wednesday.
In the framework of the Bucharest Design Festival (BDF), the Future Traditions 2.0 exhibition will open on 2 June in the Romanian capital, at the headquarters of the Hungarian cultural embassy, which will be realized jointly with the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest.
The exhibition of the international research and educational development programme launched by MOME in 2015 based on the meeting of tradition and contemporary creativity was realized as a collaboration between MOME and Marmara University in Istanbul, from the works of 15 Hungarian and 10 Turkish students.
The participating lecturers and students represent different design areas from textile design to object creation. The Future Traditions program has become a permanent and defining element of the training structure of the MOME Fashion and Textile Design master's program, which creates an incentive for its international expansion with the involvement of foreign universities and professional partners.
The aim of the project, realized as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Season, is the mutual knowledge and integration of Hungarian and Turkish traditional pattern and form culture into contemporary design practice.
The exhibition in Bucharest will be opened by Judit Bráda, associate professor and Enikő Bodnár, assistant professor of the MA in Fashion and Textile Design at MOME, and welcomed by Andrei Bortun, director of BDF and András László Kósa, director of the Liszt Institute in Bucharest.
On June 4, the exhibition of BDF's central exhibitions will open in the former Cina restaurant building, including the Sepsi Design Week exhibition.
On Friday, June 5, the exhibition Little Black will open at the Ion Mincu University, which will be presented by the Liszt Institute together with the House of Traditions in Bucharest.
The theme of the Small Black Contest of the House of Traditions in 2025 is ‘undressing – redressing’ It was to encourage craftsmen, apparel makers, folk craftsmen and young designers to create contemporary, wearable, yet message-worthy clothing inspired by the rich world of Hungarian folk costumes.
"The exhibition of the best works of the competition is an immersive experience that combines fashion, tradition, music, light and space" – read the invitation to the exhibition at the MINCU Gallery of the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism.
The exhibition in Bucharest will be opened by the patron of the competition, Eszter Cselényi, fashion designer and creative director of Celeni. Coordinator of the exhibition: Erzsébet Szabó, professional collaborator of the House of Traditions.
