Applications for the Budapest Design Week are open until 17 August, and this year it will be held in an unusual form between 1 and 11 October.
Given the pandemic situation, this year’s event will be held as a hybrid festival, with a significant part of the programmes taking place exclusively in the online space, with the exception of a few key events, said the current channel M1 on Tuesday.
This year, the importance of the circular economy is highlighted, the theme is built around the motto Keep it in the loop!
Sustainability is now an unavoidable topic, which is a key area in all segments of the economy, with designers and design playing a key role in the circular economy, emphasised Judit Osvárt, professional leader of Budapest Design Week, highlighting: this time the 17th edition of the festival will be free of charge.
As he said, applicants are not obliged to relate to the priority topic, as the primary goal of Design Week is to help Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises.
He highlighted that the jury will select the partners from among the applications received, taking into account the aspects of novelty, exclusivity, uniqueness, creativity, relevance and professional quality, whose program can be included in the official program of the event. The professional board consisting of the members of the Hungarian Design Council selects the participants from among the applicants.
Judit Osvárt highlighted that the competition is not primarily about objects, but about programme ideas, and when judging, preference is given to programmes developed specifically for online formats.
