The professors of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) have developed a subject unique in East-Central Europe, the so-called Business to Design (B2D) educational program, which specifically responds to the needs of the creative industry by passing on business approach to students - MOME told MTI on Thursday.
The implementation of B2D is carried out by renowned professionals of the sector, entrepreneurs, alumni of MOME, as well as invited international lecturers. The specialty is that the educational program is part of the curriculum, so it is a compulsory subject for all undergraduate students.
According to the announcement, Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design started to work in 2021 on a three-semester course on Business to Design, which develops entrepreneurial skills and imparts knowledge.
Its elements are designed to respond specifically to the challenges of the creative industry and specifically to questions arising in art and design education. Its innovative structure includes numerous case studies, self-awareness elements and practices in which participants can work on their own project ideas in groups. The business module helps designers to understand market thinking, discover the career paths best suited to them, and the forms of entrepreneurship best linked to their goals, specialisation and personality, in addition to the professional knowledge of their respective fields.
The university’s development and training team – Máté Barna, Andrea Schmidt, Júlia Vesmás, Lili Érmezei – has many years of national and international experience in education, design and business development.
In addition to the work of instructors and mentors, the programme is complemented by presentations by well-known professionals working in the international market. Péter Baldaszti, co-owner of Nanushka, recently performed; Judit Zolnay business and management consultant, executive business coach; Bence Vályi, founder of the Tattooed Carpenter brand, and Sára Forgács-Fábián, creator of Amigos. Other contributors include former Red Bull marketing manager Ákos Takács; former marketing manager of Coca-Cola, Tom Hídvégi; BookrKids founder Dorka Horváth; and the MUNCH startup team.
The gap-filling program received a number of positive student feedbacks: as they said, they are welcome to attend these classes not only because of the colourful material, but also because previously there was disproportionately little talk about this topic during their studies, MOME said.
