MOME Design Competence Center has been handed over

The Design Competence Centre (DKK) of MOME, handed over on Thursday, complements the role of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) as an innovation, research and development and service centre.

The government is striving to make Hungary the creative industry and design centre of Central Europe, because the creative industry is the fastest growing economic sector of the 21st century, accounting for 6.5 percent of GDP in Hungary, the Minister for Innovation and Technology stressed at the inauguration of the DKK.
László Palkovics highlighted: Today, it is difficult for a company to succeed without strong design skills, no matter what industry it is.
In addition to the construction, health and food industries, the Ministry also includes the creative industry among the strategic areas of economic development, he noted.
László Palkovics recalled that József Fülöp, the rector of MOME, is the ministerial commissioner of the Creative Industry Roundtable, which is scheduled to develop Hungary's creative industry strategy by the first quarter of 2020.

However, MOME plays an outstanding role not only as a host of professional cooperation, but also as a higher education institution: Hungary’s largest creative education facility, which cooperates with more than 200 international partners and has nearly 3 000 creative projects, he highlighted the importance of the university.
The Minister stressed: In the government's economic development strategy, higher education institutions appear as knowledge industry players developing priority industries and areas, effectively increasing the competitiveness of their partner companies with their R&D and service resources.
According to László Palkovics, the new competence centre of MOME also serves primarily to build new cooperations with creative industry players and companies.
The Government will provide more than HUF 3.2 billion for the implementation and operation of the DKK this year and over the next six years, he said.
He added that the government is supporting the establishment of additional competence centres with an additional HUF 20.5 billion.
Rector József Fülöp recalled that MOME was at the forefront of competence centres and was able to come up with a vision that would contribute to strengthening the country's competitiveness.
We are now living in the fourth wave of the industrial revolution, in which the role of design has changed: In addition to its classic object-forming function, service innovation is becoming more and more prominent, he explained.
Beyond product development, the task of the DKK will be to help its corporate and social partners in this area as well, to provide methodological professional assistance in more efficient task management, or even to help prepare for the effects of climate change, József Fülöp said.
