Our touring bag can be expanded with an award-winning degree

The FOKOS21 has received the BIG SEE product design award in Ljubljana, as part of the Design Month, which took place from 8 October to 8 November. The aim of the BIG SEE event series, which brings together 18 South-Eastern European countries, is to boost the creative industry in the region from Italy to Romania, to bring together actors from different fields of economy and design, to stimulate healthy competition and innovation.

Its state-of-the-art and clean design has already received recognition at the 2018 Hungarian Design Award. During the current competition, the expert committee examined novelty, originality, cultural and social impact, functionality and quality of execution. BIG SEE is the newest and most interesting platform under the umbrella of the BIG Institute, bringing together 18 countries and 250 million people.

The nearly 5,000-year-old degree is a tool similar to an axe, which functions both as a working tool and as a weapon. The biggest difference compared to the axe is that on the side of the degree opposite to the edge of the cutter there is a degree, which makes the tool suitable for piercing or crushing. The low mass of the degree can be counterbalanced by the relatively long force lever, which, with the edge having a small impact surface, gains an advantage in the fight. Throughout its long history, the Cape has faced many adversaries, ranging from hoplites to cataphrasts, medieval knights and janissaries to modern enlisted soldiers. Numerous legends and legends are associated with the degree, it played an important role as an additional tool for the dances presented at duels, initiation rites, weddings and parties, therefore, in addition to the necessary use, it has also become a kind of cult national object.

The innovation of FOKOS21 affected the use of materials, machining, shape and functionality. The most striking change compared to the solutions of old times is that the head and handle of the degree is made of a single sheet of steel. This design eliminates the chance of loosening the head and offers the possibility of more extreme stress. In addition to the new design, the tool has retained the advantages of degrees, it is a light, fast and agile tool, the use of which is easy to master, but difficult to master. The company was founded in 2017 by Balázs Kádár.

“The prize was a surprise, as we did not apply for the competition, but were found at last year’s Hungarian Design Award. As a Hungarian micro-enterprise, gaining international recognition is a great pleasure and confirms that we are on the right track. It is not a secret goal of our team to point out that the preservation of traditions is more than a mere imitation of the past, because without continuous innovation, old values are lost. We are trying to use the recognition generated by the prize to boost sales abroad”, said Balázs Kádár, the 21st century visionary.
