JOHN: Olivér Botár receives the Moholy-Nagy Award this year

JOHN: Oliver A. I. Botar receives the Moholy-Nagy Award this year; art historian and curator, one of the world's best-known Moholy-Nagy researchers, will receive the award from Rector József Fülöp at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) on Thursday.

JOHN: Olivér Botár is one of the most well-known researchers of László Moholy-Nagy's oeuvre and of Central European modernism, who has done an unparalleled amount of work in recent decades to make the work of the eponym of MOME, its complexity and its impact on contemporary culture known and understood around the world.
The University of Manitoba, Professor and Deputy Director of the School of Art, is the curator of Bauhaus (Canada) 101, a comprehensive exhibition presented last year in Canada, and the author of several books, including Nature and Technology – The Reinterpreted Moholy-Nagy (1916-1923), published in Hungarian.
During his research, he reinterpreted Moholy-Nagy's work, revealing that biocentrism, environmental and natural awareness were key elements of his ideals. In light of today’s global challenges, this dimension makes the study of his work even more relevant for designers, artists and educational institutions, the University stressed.
“With his whole pedagogical approach, Moholy-Nagy has sought to show people how they can live happier in modernity together with his technological flow, his overflow”, Olivért Botár is quoted in the communication.
The Board of Trustees awarding the prize appreciates Olivér Botár's work and would like to contribute to the world-famous researcher's closer relationship with the institution bearing the name of László Moholy-Nagy and carrying his spirit forward to the 21st century, his students, teachers and researchers.

At the autumn award ceremony, Ákos Schneider, Renáta Dezső, Zoltán Körösvölgyi, Bence Simon Péter, Barbara Sterk and Tamás Kollarik will receive their doctoral degrees, while András Göde and Zsolt Gyenge will receive their doctoral degrees.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the cooperation between MOME and Mercedes-Benz, the titles of honorary professors and honorary associate professors awarded to Mercedes-Benz's leading designers, current and former specialists for their educational activities will also be handed over: Robert Lesnik, Thomas Sälzle and Gábor Tamás Németh will also receive diplomas.
