The exhibition opens at 9. PsychArt24 Art Marathon

An exhibition of works by people with psycho-social disabilities and mentally healthy people will open on 11 December at the Budapest Art Brut Gallery. All the paintings can be purchased, with the money received, they support the development of the value-creating abilities of those affected by the disease.

The 9th edition was held in Budapest at the end of September. PsychArt24 Art Marathon, created eight years ago by the Moravcsik Foundation to reduce prejudices against people with psycho-social disabilities, improve their quality of life and social integration. The event was attended by people with psychiatric illnesses and their families, as well as mentally healthy people. This year, 415 paintings were made by 357 participants, the organisers told MTI.
Art therapy plays an important role in the treatment of psychiatric patients, since during the creative process the participants have the opportunity to express their inner tension and emotions. Approximately 15 percent of patients spontaneously start painting, writing poems, prose, or playing music after the disease flares up. This is important because patients can make their inner world visible to themselves and to the outside world, they can reflect on themselves through their struggles and their creations.
After the Art Marathon, József Gaál, painter, graphic artist, sculptor, Julia Fabényi, director of the Ludwig Museum, Erika Csák, editor of Kossuth Publishing House and Judit Faludy, art historian, selected a collection of 50 pieces to be exhibited at the Budapest Art Brut Gallery from mid-December.
