Valley of Arts – almost 3 000 events at this year’s festival

More than ever before, the 33rd edition is open to visitors. Valley of Arts: Visitors can choose from almost three thousand musical, literary, theatrical, dance, family and other events between 19 and 28 July in Kapolcs, Vigántpetend and Taliándörögd.

Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development, said at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday: The Valley of Arts has become part of the region's economy, and by strengthening the communities living here, it enriches the entire region, economy and Hungarian culture.
He highlighted: keeping the momentum of last year’s Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme, their aim is to create a creative region in which festivals, including the Valley of Arts, play an essential role.
Natália Oszkó-Jakab, director of the festival said: This year, 2972 programs, 40 program venues and many novelties will be prepared, with new venues, sustainability and art programs, with its own play, the contemporary art offer will be strengthened, and this year many museums will be present at the festival. The VölgyImpró programme series, the Music Bus, as well as many children's programmes and film screenings are also on offer, in which contemporary dance will also be given more prominence this year.
He said: The SzimBio Courtyard and the Artist's Valley Curia explore the relationship between Romani Design, the arts and environmental protection with a separate courtyard.
Two venues show different theatrical productions every day, including Vígszínház, Orlai Produkció and Nézőmű Kft. This year's theatrical premiere of the Valley of Arts will be the Tikk-Takk bang with Art-Színtér.
He highlighted: 19 major orchestral concerts were held. 30Y, Aurevoir., Bagossy Brothers Company, Bëlga, Beton.Hofi, Blahalouisiana, Bohemian Betyars, Carson Coma. In the vigántpetendi Cirque du Tókert you can hear Zorán, András Kern, Mariann Falusi, László Dés, Juli Básti, Vera Tóth and József Wunderlich. Budapest Bár and János Bródy will also take to the stage, and this time the Csík band will give a concert together with Gábor Presser.
He also mentioned that the festival will have a separate venue for jazz, world music, folk and classical music lovers. He highlighted: The Harcsa Veronika Court will be renewed this year, this time it will move to Taliándörögd.
He said that several guests were invited to the smallest courtyard of the festival, Edina Szirtes Mókus MókusKert Courtyard, and László Hobo Földes is waiting for his students in his courtyard in Vigántpetend again this year, but the Kaláka Versudvar and POKET Pocketbooks Courtyard also presents a colorful selection.
He said that the Petőfi Court will welcome visitors with the slogan ‘1100 years in Europe, 20 years in the EU’, popular music concerts, literary discussions and educational lectures.
At the press conference held at the National Dance Theatre, Péter Ertl, director of the theatre emphasized: they have been organizing dance productions in the Valley of Arts offer for many years, this year they will strengthen their cooperation even more, they will continue to work as dance partners.
Domonkos Schneller, Director General of the Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport, said: The museum awaits festival-goers with a series of stand-alone events, conversations and music buses. Musicians perform their songs for passengers on the Ikarus 311 nostalgia bus produced in the 1970s.
Kornél Almássy, Director of the Hungarian Museum of Architecture emphasized: Participate in the festival as a new player: They are preparing with an exhibition, they are holding discussions about architecture and monument protection, they are also waiting for the visitors with museum pedagogical activities, walks and workshops.
Tamás Don, Chief Curator of MODEM said: the Debrecen Contemporary Art Center strives to bring contemporary art closer to people, more and more projects are organized where they can appear in unexpected places. The festival will be prepared with a museum education program, in which two selected contemporary works will be discovered and interpreted with the involvement of the participants. Workshops will be held and further interactive activities will be organised.
Róbert Török, Director of the Museum of Commerce and Hospitality presented: they come to the festival with a pop-up exhibition, a travelling exhibition presenting the history of brewing, and they are also preparing art pedagogy programmes.
As it was said, the Budapest City Archives, the Museum of Ethnography, the Laczkó Dezső Museum, the Adaptér and the Postal Museum will also give an insight into its offer.
For the first time Romani Design appears in Vigántpetenden with its own courtyard. Designer Helena Varga and curator Lili Kriston said: they design all-art programs, they produce exhibitions, concerts, conversations, fashion shows, creative workshops, jewellery workshops.
