Fokos21 received a prestigious award

In the framework of the 2018 Hungarian Design Award, the tool born from the rethinking of the degree was awarded.

The history of the degree can be traced back to pre-time. It came to Europe thanks to the Scythians, but the conquering Hungarians also liked to use this versatile weapon, which also functioned as a working tool, to which many legends and myths are attached.

This tool with historical roots was rethought by Balázs Kádár in its 21st century form, which was named FOKOS21. The designer of FOKOS21 came from the business world and handed out business building advice to start-ups, but he also wanted to try out business development methods on his own. Since he works with business software in everyday life, he thought an objective device would move him out of his comfort zone.

The idea of rethinking the form of the degree was given by the cult built around tomahawk and the contrast of modernization. Like the ancient weapon, this modern version is designed for versatile use and extreme situations. This easy-to-use, lightweight tool can be taken with you even in everyday life, or used in urban environments, but it can also be used to easily solve difficult tasks that require survival conditions.

The FOKOS21 is structurally designed with a handle pin, i.e. the whole tool is manufactured from a single chrome steel plate, so the steel part of the blade and the handle are not separated from each other. The weapon has a skeletal structure, does not contain unnecessary frills, but is equipped with structural relief elements, which greatly facilitate the connection of carabiners and fastening ropes.

The head has a double design, the cutting edge is suitable for cutting and splitting, and the wedge is suitable for applying crushing force. This versatile tool, FOKOS 21, can be used for cutting, splitting, breaking, slicing, thrusting, hammering, punching, digging, tensioning, planing, opening locks, breaking stones, walls, windshields, pulling nails, tightening screws and more, so it's clear that we're dealing with a multifunctional tool.

Every spring, the Minister for National Economy announces the Hungarian Design Award in the product, visual communication, design and student categories. During the competition, the expert committee examines the formal quality, novelty, originality, competitiveness, quality of execution, user-friendly design, environmental and environmentally friendly solutions. The history of the Hungarian Design Award can be traced back to 1979, which is why it is a great honour to receive this award in the framework of the almost forty-year-old award. In 2018, Balázs Kádár succeeded in this, as FOKOS21 received a certificate of appreciation from the jury of the 2018 Hungarian Design Award competition and was invited to the design exhibition held within the framework of Design Week.

The future goals are to promote FOKOS21 on the market and to develop newer, improved versions over time, but what would be a really special and honourable task is the newer version, developed at the request of the Hungarian Defence Forces.
