Bálint Szalai and Monika Benísková won this year's Unlimited Design Award

Two early-career artists: The Hungarian Bálint Szalai and the Czech Monika Benísková won the Unlimited Design Award for the best artists of this year's Unlimited Design exhibition on Friday.

Bálint Szalai, who graduated from MOME Design Institute, and Monika Benísková, who graduated from LSFDA University in Pilsen, will receive a gross prize of HUF 300,000 per person, while designers Katia Bagosi and Andrei Revnic will receive free participation at one of Europe’s most important design events, the Lodz Design Festival, the organisers told MTI on Friday.
From Saturday, the Unlimited Design exhibition will present the works of 152 designers, jewellery designers and artists from 14 countries in the Kiscell Museum.
The organizers of the annual international exhibition founded a design award in 2016 with the aim of acknowledging the professional achievements of the exhibitors of the selection, primarily supporting young, mainly early-career artists. The aim of the award is to draw attention to the potential of design, the importance of patronage and social engagement.
The jury, made up of renowned experts, assesses the originality, innovative solutions and high design content of the objects, the communication recalls.
In the selection of the works this year Zsófia Csomay architect, interior designer, honorary university professor; Nóra Demeter (Demeter Design Studio) architect, interior designer; Béla Horváth, founder of the Béla Horváth Art Foundation, art collector; Zsolt Petrányi art historian, Katalin Spengler and Zsolt Somlói art collectors took part.
The Borderless Design Exhibition, organized as part of the CAFe Budapest Contemporary Art Festival and the Budapest Design Week programme series, can be visited until 15 November.
