Budapest Metropolitan University represents Hungary at Helsinki Design Week

The Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries will represent Hungary at the largest design festival in Northern Europe, Helsinki Design Week, from 8 to 17 September, the university told MTI on Wednesday.

The event, which offers almost a hundred programs, aims to inspire professionals and visitors in the field of design and architecture by presenting the latest trends. The central theme of Helsinki Design Week this year will be creative storytelling, which is reflected in the title of the festival: “Once upon a time.”.
METU’s From Sketch to Screen showcases the visual vision, message and technical knowledge of the young generation of animated films, with five short films and two motion tests.
As the university highlights, in the five animated films to be shown, METU students' varied technical knowledge and artistic self-expression on universal themes such as friendship, loneliness or courage are sculpted.
The aim of the introduction is to provide visitors with an insight into the world of animated film making, including 2D, 3D, stop-motion and experimental approaches.
In addition to animated films, visitors can accompany METU's cooperation with this year's largest cultural event in Hungary, the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, in which students participated with graphic design, design and theoretical projects received as a class assignment.
The roundtable discussion organised for the opening of the exhibition will discuss the relationship between animation design and artificial intelligence, the university said.
The exhibition of METU will open on 8 September at Helsinki Design Week, and after the event it will be open until 13 October at the Helsinki Liszt Institute.
