The effect of lamp light on the human body largely depends on the type of light, its intensity and color temperature. Not all artificial light is the same: differently, the warm light of a candle, a traditional bulb, an LED or a special light therapy lamp will act.
Effects of lamp light on the human body
1. Sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm)
Warm yellowish light (2700-3000K): It is soothing, ideal for rest and evening hours because it contains little blue light → it does not inhibit melatonin production.
Cold bluish light (5000-6500K): It stimulates the brain, but in the evening it can interfere with sleep because it stops melatonin production.
2. Mental state, mood
Strong light: increases alertness, improves concentration (office light, LED).
Soft diffuse light: receipt, relieves stress, helps relaxation (e.g. ceramic lamps, mood lighting).
Light therapy lamps are also used to treat winter depression (SAD).
3. Eyes and vision
Too bright, blinding light can tire the eyes, cause headaches.
Poor quality light (vibrating LED, poor color temperature) can cause eye fatigue and dry eyes in the long run.
Stable lamps with a natural effect (good colour rendering, CRI>90) are gentle on the eyes.
4. Physical health
Colder light in the morning → stimulates the endocrine system (cortisol), gives energy.
In the evening warm light → supports rest, calming down before sleep.
Artificial light is less conducive to vitamin D synthesis because it lacks the UV-B component found in sunlight.
5. Emotional and home effects
Warm lights create a friendly, cozy atmosphere, thus indirectly reducing stress and contributing to physical and mental well-being.
Too cold, sterile light can be exhausting in the long run, especially in a home environment.
In short:
Cold, bluish light: Invigorates, wakes up, but in the evening can be harmful to sleep.
Warm yellowish light: It is ideal for rest and relaxation.
Soft, shady light: It harmonizes the functioning of the body and soul, gives a better sense of well-being.
