Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design represented Hungary at the Intercolor conference in Porto

The Intercolor colour committee is a colour research, development and trend-setting platform, in which colour trends experts from 17 countries are represented from all over the world. The committee meets twice a year in different countries. At these meetings, during a conference and workshop, the colour trends of the current season are projected for two years in advance and colour palettes are compiled that can be used mainly by the textile, design and fashion industries, but also in all areas where colours play a key role. Hungary has been represented on the committee by Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design since 2018.

In November, the INTERCOLOR conference was hosted by Porto. Hungary and the university were represented by two professors of the Textile Design Department of the Design Institute, Eszter Révész and Annamária Simándi-Kövér.

Eszter Révész's short report reveals exactly how trend-making takes place in the world of colours.

“On the opening day, the first programme of the Intercolor conference was a visit to the Serralves Museum, where we visited the exhibitions of Anish Kapoor, Robert Mapplethorpe and Pedro Costa. At the conference following the cultural programme, we heard exciting roundtable discussions and presentations about the relationship between colours and generations. During the afternoon, members of the Intercolor colour committee presented their visions in the form of a 3-minute video on ‘Colour Generations/Generations Clour’. The MOME video was made by design student Csongor Hőnrich.

During the morning of the second day, the members presented their colour offers for the autumn/winter 2020 season. After that, the co-creation of concepts and the grouping of colorboards started. At the end of the day, the participating countries presented each other with exciting and innovative materials in the framework of ‘materials matter’. During the hard work, there was also time to relax.

On the last day of the workshop we finalised the categories and the concept. Using the material cuts made by the members, the trend offers of autumn/winter 2020 were developed.’ – Eszter Révész, trainer
