Chinese studio Neri & Hu has created a versatile spherical glass lamp for the Italian lighting brand Artemide ,, which can also be used as a table lamp or wall lamp.

The nh1217, which Artemide calls an ‘elegant yet practical device’, was designed by the Shanghai-based company to replace traditional Chinese lamps.

The spherical white blown glass diffuser of the lamp slides along a brushed brass ring, which can be used as a table or wall-mounted lamp.

Lamps continue the collaboration between Neri & Hu and Artemide, which began earlier this year with the launch of Milan Design Week's Yanzi collection .

“Nh1217 will continue to explore the dynamic interaction of experience, detail, materials, form and light,” said the Italian brand.

“The materials selected represent the perfect combination of tradition and innovation and an expression of responsible and sustainable design, encouraged by a low-consumption retrofit LED source and eco-friendly cardboard packaging.”

Their most popular projects include a skin care shop in Seoul with copper bar grills , a fashion brand Comme Moi , a burger restaurant inspired by the 1950s and a stand-alone store in London for Selfridges .

nh is a simple, versatile, practical appliance that can be laid or suspended. A white blown glass sphere slides along a brushed brass ring, which permits it to take different positions and to independently adjust and direct the diffuser. The frame becomes a support, a hook to hang the appliance to the wall, or a handle promoting an interaction with light.
