MDDÜ and MOME created a material library

The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (MDDÜ) together with Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) established the Budapest Design Material Library (BDML), which collects samples of the latest and most innovative materials from all over the world. The official opening of the material library was held on Monday at MOME in Budapest.

The database will be available to university students, manufacturers, designers, domestic small and medium-sized design companies, large companies, and material and product development companies, among others.
At the event, József Fülöp, rector of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design emphasized that creativity never existed without technological knowledge and business openness. He expressed his pleasure that MOME, together with the MDDÜ and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, can open up areas where all three elements appear.
The Rector hopes that the initiative will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Hungarian designers and the Hungarian fashion and design industry.
Zsófia Bata-Jakab, CEO of MDDÜ said that their many-year plan has come true with the opening of the innovative material library, thanks to their cooperation with MOME, the library has been placed in the best place.
The CEO stressed that the database opens up new opportunities for different industry players. He added: the material library is a bridge between traditional design and non-traditional industry players. It can become a community space that can be a meeting point and can be used as a knowledge base, he added.
It is the fifth European library of materials and the ninth such database in the world. He added: Currently, 300 samples of materials can be seen at the university's exhibition, and 10,000 samples of materials can be viewed online. According to their plans, the number of samples will increase year by year.
László György, Minister of State for Economic Strategy and Regulation at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) called the development of university infrastructure with the cooperation of market players important in order to create the jobs of the future. This could lead to ideas such as the material library, he added.
He recalled that the process of the transformation of universities, the change of the university model started among the first ones at MOME, and the result of the development can be clearly seen.
According to the Minister of State, the cooperation of MOME and MDDÜ in the creation of the material library is also important because it serves the realization of creativity and creative ideas.
