Common space - The 2nd floor opens on Saturday National Salon of Arts and Design

The results of ten design disciplines in the past five years are reviewed under the title Common Space in the II. National Salon of Industrial and Design Arts, which opens on Saturday in Budapest, in the Kunsthalle.

György Szegő, artistic director of the Kunsthalle said at the press visit of the exhibition on Friday: I would like to present outstanding works of art from the past five years, but some significant works will also be exhibited, which could not be included in the programme of the 1st National Salon of Industrial and Design Arts in 2017.
The world is changing very dynamically, and the presence of digital media is making the genres of applied arts more and more complex, comprehensive and complex, a process that can also be seen at the exhibition, Mr Szegő added.
András Szilágyi B., curator of the exhibition, recalled that the applied arts can be divided into about 16-18 genres, the boundaries of which are difficult to define, so Aristotle's Categories was invoked at the exhibition to help visitors understand the nature of "expressible things" in the common space.
The exhibition presents the works of more than 300 artists in 10 artistic fields (ceramic, goldsmith, interior design, graphic design, industrial design, glass art, textile design, post-industrial design, animation and autonomous art), from objects of use to artistic experiments. In addition, the effects of the deceased masters will be shown in the exhibition, added András Szilágyi B.
The curator highlighted that 2022 is the International Year of Glass following the decision of the 75th UN General Assembly, therefore the Glass Exhibition will be presented with a completely separate curatorial concept and emphasis.
The work of András Szilágyi B., curator invited by Műcsarnok, was supported by Eleonóra Balogh as co-curator and by Ducki Krzysztof, György Fúsz, Hedvig Harmati, László Kálmán, Tamás Liszka, István Szenes and Fruzsina Tóth as consultants.
The Bohus-Lugossy Foundation for Contemporary Glass Art is the professional partner of Műcsarnok in the realization of the exhibition.
The first salon summarizing the recent achievements of contemporary Hungarian applied art and design was organized five years ago, in 2017, by Kunsthalle, presenting the works of 208 artists.
