Works of nearly 150 artists from 12 countries at the Unlimited Design exhibition

The exhibition "Borderless Design" presents the works of nearly 150 artists from twelve countries, which opened on Thursday in the Budapest Whale.

The Unlimited Design – 14th madeinhungary – 7. Meeting of European and Central European Designers presents furniture, utility items, textiles and jewellery. The objects include series-produced products, small-series pieces and unique works that interpret genres freely, textile designer Szilvia Szigeti, curator of the exhibition, emphasised at the press visit on Thursday.
As he said, with Tamás Radnóti interior designer, the other curator of the exhibition, I would like to present the diversity and freshness of the area, so in addition to the objects created taking into account current trends, there are also pieces reflecting individual visions in the spaces.
Szilvia Szigeti reminded that the Borderless Design exhibition has been organized since 2004, which was initially shown as part of the Home Trend exhibition and only presented the works of Hungarian designers, but in 2012 the exhibition was expanded with the works of designers from the Visegrád countries. Last year, designers from Romania, Austria, Germany and Switzerland joined, and this year Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese artists will also be introduced, he said.
He highlighted that this year the exhibition became a member of Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE).
The works of the exhibition are grouped around three themes. In the first part, the intersection of genres is presented through textiles, lamps and furniture. Among others, Ágnes Kollár's textile, Lucie Koldová's internationally acclaimed Czech designer chair, and Blum & Wolf's family of lamps can be seen by the audience.
The large hall features the chairs of Spanish designers, the works of Polish textile designers and the works of Hungarian lamp, furniture and textile designers, as well as the 3D printed textile of the Czech Egli Studio.

The section linking the two parts was constructed in the spirit of the nomadic and organic ‘mood’. In addition to the environmentally conscious project of the Mischer Traxler Studio referring to solar energy and recycling, the armchair and chair of the Italian designer Roberto Rota and the vintage furniture collection of the young Hungarian designer Sára Kele made of recycled materials will be presented.
The exhibition features a selection of works by students of Hungarian and foreign art universities, while the last room features design jewelry, where the works of students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art in Pilsen are in the focus.
At the opening of the exhibition, the Unlimited Design Awards were handed over. In the furniture and object design category, Polish Studio Malafor and Hungarian Blum & Wolf won the gross prize of HUF 300,000. Viktor Kovác, student of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and Tata Akhatova, student of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, received the gross HUF 100,000 prize in the field of jewellery designers.
Ágnes Kollár, a student of the Budapest Metropolitan University in the field of textile design, earned the gross 200 thousand HUF recognition of the textile category. The awards were decided by a three-member professional jury.
