Nearly forty galleries take part in the Art and Antique art fair

Almost forty contemporary and classical galleries, auction houses and art dealers will take part in the 5th edition of the exhibition. Art and Antique art fair between 2 and 5 March at the Bálna Budapest Event Center.

The history of the exhibition goes back to 1994, when the Museum of Ethnography hosted the event under the name of Antique Interior, and from 1996 the Kunsthalle hosted the event annually. Since 2019, the fair has been organised under the name Art and Antique, where contemporary art is already present alongside classical artworks – recalls the announcement sent by the organisers to MTI on Friday.
This year's exhibitors will highlight the contemporary material of the Virág Judit Gallery, including the three large-scale oil paintings of István Nádler's 1996 series Untitled, László Lakner's 1964 surnaturalist work Horn and Cabbage, Endre Rozsda's Kaleidoscopic Composition, Tamás Konok's 1976 Tension linéaire, Ilona Keserü's silkscreen prints from the 1970s, and the works of Tamás Hencze, László Fehér and Imre Bak.
The MissionArt Gallery exhibits the works of Imre Bak, Ákos Bánki, Ágnes Verebics, András Wahorn and the works of Endre Bálint, Gyula Derkovits, Béla Kondor and Victor Vasarely.
The Ani Molnár Gallery presents a selection that represents both geometric and lyrical abstraction, as well as conceptual works presenting contemporary social and artistic issues. Their exhibiting artists include Emese Benczúr, Balázs Csizik, András Ernszt, Erika Fábián, István Haász and Tamás Konok.
The Space Contemporary Art Gallery presents the works of Gabriella Hajnal tapestry artist, István Csorba-Simon, Csaba Fürjesi, Lóczi Judit Horváth, Botond András Kiss and Lóránt Zuzu Méhes artists, Terézia Hajzó, Márta Kiss and Kata Koleszár painters, and Anikó Robitz photographer as the youngest gallery of Budapest.
The TOBE Gallery focuses on the ibero-American and Hungarian artists of contemporary photography and collage art, and in our TOBE Project several media of contemporary art are present. The exhibition will feature works by András Gál, José Luis ‘Chuchi’ Sánchez, Gustavo Blanco-Uribe, Almudena Romero, Jean-Francois Lepage and young Hungarian photographers.
The program of Vintage Gallery focuses on the presentation of modernist artists (André Kertész, László Moholy-Nagy), neo-avant-garde and conceptual art (Gábor Attalai, Tibor Hajas, Dóra Maurer) and contemporary artists (Gábor Ősz, Dezső Szabó, Kamilla Szíj).
WOP Gallery Budapest considers the presentation and sale of Hungarian and international graphic materials to be its top priority; Ai Wei Wei, Imre Bak, János Fajó, Victor Vasarely and Dóra Maurer can also be bought at the fair.
Antiquities also play an important role in Art and Antique: Artcore Antik & Design art deco, bauhaus, midcentury, modern and contemporary design furniture, while BÁV ART Auction House and Gallery awaits visitors with jewellery and works of art.
The Bernabo art-furniture collection contains mostly Hungarian and French art deco furniture, the Budapest Poster Gallery presents the works of Lajos Kassák and György Konecsni among others as a gallery dealing with old posters and poster designs.
The fair will be complemented by a charity online auction with offers from the exhibiting galleries: bidding on the Axioart platform is open until 5 March at the auction announced for the benefit of the Public Benefit Foundation for Ballet Students of the Opera House.
